Gomukhasana (Yin variation)

Shoelace Pose

Shoelace is a supported, quieter variation of the stacked-leg Cow Face position.

Intermediate ยท 5/10

Practise away from the screen with the Yoga Cards deck.

How to do this pose

  1. Sit on a cushion and cross the bent legs without forcing the knees to stack.
  2. Remain upright or lean a little onto a bolster while the joints stay comfortable.
  3. Come out slowly using the hands to assist the legs, then change the crossing.

Before you begin

Release immediately for tingling or knee pain; long holds are optional.

What you should feel

A mild, sustainable hip stretch rather than intense knee pressure.

Benefits

Common mistakes

Staying longer because a pose is labelled Yin, despite pain or numbness.

Modifications

Extend the lower leg or use Reclined Pigeon.
