How to do this pose

  1. Stand with feet parallel and a comfortable distance apart.
  2. Spread your weight across both feet without gripping your toes or locking your knees.
  3. Let your arms hang and your head balance above your shoulders. Keep your ribs comfortably above your pelvis.
  4. Breathe naturally for several breaths, then step or sit down as needed.

Before you begin

Sit down if standing brings on dizziness or unsteadiness. Use support if balance is uncertain; seek guidance for persistent symptoms.

What you should feel

Steady contact through the feet and light postural effort. You do not need to stiffen the entire body.

Benefits

Practises awareness of standing balance and upright alignment without requiring a deep stretch.

Common mistakes

Locking the knees, leaning into the heels, gripping the toes, or forcing the chest upward.

Modifications

Stand near a wall or hold a stable chair for balance. The same upright awareness can be practised seated with supported feet.

Prep Poses

No preparatory pose required; begin from comfortable sitting or standing.

Follow-Up Poses

Upward Salute; a supported standing pose
